A Little Taste Of Paradise

We had our first ward activity on Tuesday at our Bishop's farm. The catch? Bishop Ashton's farm is extra LARGE. He owns Thanksgiving Point and helped create Word Perfect. Needless to say, he's quite prosperous.

I was astounded when we drove up. There was his barn in fully glory... complete with grassy fields, an outdoor tennis and basketball court, a pond with swans (we took the paddle boats on it and tried to catch them), playgrounds, playhouses, and 2 ziplines. Are you kidding me?!
We had a tasty dinner outdoors, played around for a bit (he had a life size chess set!), then moved inside the barn to be taught salsa dance lessons by professional instructors. Too much fun? I think so. Best activity ever? You betcha.

Regardless of all he has, Bishop Ashton is such a humble and giving man, allowing us poor college students to experience on a regular basis some of the benefits of his hard work. He even comes around with loads of fresh peaches and corn to give us from his garden. I have a lot to learn from him!

That's so cool that Bishop Ashton is your bishop. His son Morgan was my first seminary teacher and is currently teaching my mission prep class. My mom was also friends with his daughter Emily in high school. The Ashtons are an amazing family!
